Provence Holiday Villas – Local Area

The Local Area

Le Thor is situated within close proximity of Avignon, about 20 minutes and L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgues, about 10 minutes. It is a typical French town with local shops and produce, market days and cafes to sit at and watch the world go by.

It is steeped in history with medieval buildings and a central church that sits on the banks of the beautiful River Sorgues.

The village of Le Thor is surrounded by farm land, orchard fields and the meandering River Sorgues. It is very quiet and peaceful and perfect for gentle cycling between the neighboring villages.

There are a couple of local restaurants but you are best advised to visit those recommended by Audrey and Peter, including the “Mas de Rives Vertes” a local farm that specializes in long lazy Sunday lunches, a local brasserie terrace bar with a view, serving steaks and frites under a weighty wisteria in Chateauneuf-de-Gadagne and the many stylish restaurants of L’Ise-sur-la-Sorgues, with its antique shops and brocante markets.

When asked, “what is it like to walk into Le Thor from The Willow Tree?” I can best explain in pictures.  A brisk walk on quiet country roads followed by a peaceful, gentle meander over the bridge into Le Thor itself.  20 minutes walking or 10 minutes on a bicycle or 2 minutes by car.
